Why Stoneground Milling?

Time-honored grain, time-honored process

Heirloom corn

Open-pollinated varieties grown from saved seed: Cherokee White Eagle, Hickory Cane, and more.

Stoneground

Milled slowly between granite stones to keep the germ, the oil, and the flavor intact.

Small Batch

Slow milled, in small batches. Milled fresh weekly.

Locally Grown

Traditional heirloom corn varieties grown on our East Tennessee farm.

Our cornmeal and grits are different

Most cornmeal you’ve eaten was a commodity.

Industrial cornmeal is degermed — the oil-rich heart of the kernel is stripped out so the grain can sit on a shelf for a year. What you’re left with is shelf life, not flavor.

Our cornmeal and grits are whole. The germ stays in. The process works slowly, so that the grain never overheats. The natural oils, the sweetness, and the deep corn aroma all flourish during the milling process.

The result is a cornmeal that tastes like the field it came from — rich, floral and aromatic, with the unmistakable color of the kernel it was ground from.

Since 2026

It starts on our farm. And one hand-crafted stone mill.

Jonathan Buchanan has worked in local agriculture for over a decade, supplying produce, eggs, and meat to local restaurants and families alike.

He recently shifted his focus to heirloom corn. What was once a side project growing small plots of rare heirloom corn varieties, he now grows on multiple farms, harvesting tens of thousands of pounds of corn per year. Now, he’s turning those yields into the best heirloom cornmeal and grits available.

They feed our family, and our neighbors, and now you.

Stone ground in small batches, each bag reflects the same care he’s brought to the land for years.

Milled Fresh Every Time

Cornmeal the way it’s supposed to taste.

The difference is baked into the flavor. Level up your cornbread, polenta, and grits.
